This vase is extremely heavy. Not marked. 25 cm high.

More to come tomorrow. I may even have my first murano piece.......or my third Chinese piece  :o

I have been searching GMB all day, learning loads but not finding anything like this. I have started to put my photo's on "yobunny" thanks Anne, as they seem to be easier to recover.

Editx2 Now better images. (I hope)

Another Czec or Polish piece? NEW PICS!

Hmm...did you buy this piece very recently?  This was on wf.com (looks like same piece anyway) about 3 weeks ago.  Someone said that it's definitely Tapio Wirkkala, so I asked them which book they were using as I couldn't find it.  I didn't get a reply unfortunately.

Yes Max,
It just came yesterday. I really love these unusual textured vases and it only cost me a tenner. As yet I am unable to identify glass by sight except for a few W/F pieces and the odd one that comes up that I happen to have in my collection. As was mentioned in another thread by another member, I like to stick a tiny label on the underside and then if anything ever happens to me my kids know what they are selling. In the meantime, whilst I am recovering from my small operation, I can read tons of stuff on here.

Edit: I have just found the vase you mentioned on W/F.com. They do look identical, mine looks taller but that could be down to camera angle. I did buy mine here in Holland, not sure where the lady who asked about it saw it. I cannot however find any markings, TW or otherwise, on the base.
It is not a bark pattern either as suggested on W/F more of a crushed ice design.
If I know, I'll comment. If I think I know, I'll have a go. If I have no idea, I'll just keep quiet and learn from others, so the next time I'll know.

Max,

I think this is the vase referred to on W/F.

Definitely not the one I have though or the one on W/F.

Hi Della
I had to look at your gallery to see which vase was being posted about here.

As you rightly conclude yours is not the same as the Wirkkala "Avena" vase shown on Nan and Fred Ehemann's site.

So what is it ?
That's more difficult especially from photos.
Tip : Photograph clear glass against black or a very dark color to bring out the pattern and increase contrast.

Yours looks to be thicker glass than most Wirkkala which is also most often signed. This is the first time I've seen one so similar in concept if not in detail.  The texturing is one I don't remember seeing before - if I am seeing it "right".

I have a feeling it's also more recent. We could be looking at Poland or another Scandi maker or indeed "other" countries makers. I think it may be a while before we can pin this one down unless someone comes up with one which is labelled.

It could even be more recent iittala production but I don't think so. I believe iittala do have retail outlet(s) in Holland. Try taking it to one of those if you can. They will certainly be able to "yes" or "no" to iittala but may also be able to tell you where its from. At very least you will have the opportunity to compare with their stock - an excellent and cheap learning experience. ( You don't have to buy anything !.....but beware ...you may be tempted !)

But the vase is not Iittala, but Nachtmann, Germany. >> link to Astrid's gallery

There is an Iitala vase that is slightly similar, but less angular, that's the one by Wirkkala. I can confirm what Dirk says, this one I'm sure is Nachtmann. I've seen a number of them with labels.
