Glass Seashells
« on: June 19, 2010, 02:33:23 PM »
Hi all.  I thought I saw these pictured somewhere online but can't find a reference now.  Someone had an ebay listing of a single in an iridescent finish that they called "Fenton Carnival glass seashell" but I don't believe it's Fenton.  I have no idea really.  Was told they were purchased at a thrift store several decades ago.  They are 3-4" tall.  Looks like 2 piece mold with ground base.  I assume they are essentially junk pieces worth but if someone can confirm that would be great.  -Buck

That's funny - we got exactly the same three (with the middle one being very slightly iridescent): could that be an indication they were sold as set? We've had them for more than 30 years - before I made notes on where we got them from.

We also got a snail, looking similar, signed GOEBEL - so possibly the three in question here may also be Goebel, who made loads of glass figurines, many of them pressed glass.

Thanks Wuff,
No luck yet searching with 'Goebel' included but still looking.
I think until we find otherwise we'll just have to agree they are rare and priceless  ;D

How about this one for comparison ?
http://cgi.ebay.ch/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190406162302

Hey thanks Wuff ().  That was quite a good clue.  I'd say it's a match.  Langsam-Billings was out of Brooklyn NY, and had stores in a few cities.  They were an importer but had pieces custom made for them as well.  Something I read indicated they worked with some glass houses in Pennsylvania, and West Virginia, USA for some items.  I was hoping these were USA made but based on the label in the ebay listing I'm going to have to assume Taiwan as country of origin.   Guess there's a remote possibility that earlier versions were produced elsewhere and L-B had later versions produced in Taiwan but that's probably just wishful thinking.

Thanks  ... (I think?)  ;) .

Looks like this thread is resolved.
