Hi, I have joined today through a friends recommendation.
I have a vase that I would like to sell but have no idea of price, age, origin etc.
Im not even sure if its a vase. It has a handle and a spout you see. Although it is very tall (14") and slender.
It is purple in colour with a clear twisted base and handle which look to have been applied.
I will try to post a piccy but Im not much good at this sort of thing. Any advise gratefully recieced.
Mainly would like to know is it British, how old is it, what is it called and how much is it worth. Thankyou in advance.

Welcome to the board.
I would say made in mainland Italy, possibly Empoli, date 1970s onward, an ornamental jug and not worth much, sorry

Thankyou very much for the info. So it wouldnt have been used as a jug just for decoration? Should I list to sell as a jug even though it looks more like a vase? I paid £5 for it. What is it worth please?

Hmm, found this which looks very much like it minus the stopper.
Described as Murano Cranberry Pitcher with twisted stem and handle.
What do you think please?
Mod: Picture removed for copyright reasons. Please post a link to the auction instead.

No idea about your glass, I would call it a vase and a pitcher if I was selling it....
Many of us don't offer valuations, they are too subjective and problematic. Prices on ebay and elsewhere fluctuate from day to day and from item to item. To get an idea of what it may sell for you will need to watch what similar items sell for over a period of time.

it is Empoli, not wishful Murano. The model is Etruscan, these are found with or without stopper - check the inside of the neck to be sure.

Thankyou Ivo. What should I be looking for inside the neck? I can tell you that it feels a little rough around the inside and then goes smooth further down. Would this indicate that it had a stopper? What does that mean?
So the person with the similar if not identical jug above got it wrong about the Murano bit?

Can I just point out that as that second picture is not yours you are not allowed to post it for copyright reasons. You can however post a link to it.
Be very wary of online attributions. Murano is very much used inaccurately in connection with glass. If the neck is rough inside, it should have a stopper. Can we see a picture of the base please, as these sorts of things don't usually have pontil marks.

I dont know how to post the photos of the "pontil" mark here as they are too big so here is the link to the auction: http://uk.ebid.net/for-sale/old-italian-cranberry-glass-pitcher-jug-large-tall-vase-28905029.htmPlease can you let me know if this is a pontil mark as if not obviously I will have to amend the listing. Thankyou everyone for your help.

It's definitely not a pontil mark. I'm not sure whether that's a normal mould mark or what they call a gadget mark.
