It is more likely that that the mould was remade... seems a bit extreme for mould wear.

Adding to last comment, moulds get remade because of wear but also severe damage OR because a new machine demands differences in the exterior of the mould. If an original master is not available the quickest route is to cast one in the original mould and make repairs on the new master - the downside is that the new master will have less definition and the subsequent mould even less.
