Hi i am looking for the maker of these inkwells to start a search for the ink holder that i think should go into the hole in the glass the base says "made in England" and has raised squares, does anyone know if it should be a Bakelite infill or more glass, any help is appreciated....Lynn

The combined pen tray and ink well here might very well have been made by the same company.

I have seen these with the glass lids, as shown, and with 'plastic' (either Bakelite or Lucite, I assume) lids in red and black. I believe the lids were designed to be swung to one side so that the pen could be dipped into the small receptacle. This would also serve to support the pen.

I would also be interested to learn of the origins. Again, MADE IN ENGLAND is embossed, this time within the pen tray. I have always thought a c.1930s manufacture, but no indication of it being from Chance Bros.

It's highly likely they are Bagley items.
