Topic: Davidson green cloud bowl.

I almost allocated this a wrong design no. because views of bowls, particularly large ones can be misleading if you don't see the thing from several angles, most usefully as in the second picture here.   I think I now have this one correctly labelled as No. 735 (it does measure 15 inch) - but would appreciate an expert's confirmation please.   I think this one would not be too difficult to confuse with the flatter top No. 725.   However, just imagine the space needed to display the 20 inch one   thanks for looking, and if anyone has the correct 7.5 inch flower frog please give me a nudge :X:   Apologies, I forgot to clean it before taking the pics.

Hi Paul Great bowl cannot help with flower block I need help with a bowl see photo my bowl is only just in one piece looks as if the block was droped into it but these are so hard to find here in NZ
This should be in the topic would you buy damaged glass will see if I can photo the damage

Sorry to hear of the damage Tony  -  I guess thinking about it there must have been many a bowl sent to the graveyard by people dropping their frogs onto the bowl/dish.    Wet fingers and heavy frogs do not make for a safe combination.   I'm the least expert person re Cloud Glass, but colour wise we tend to see the amber/brown ones most frequently here, and these green pieces I understand were made for only a limited period prior to the second war, and as a consequence are far less common.   Discounting the specialist antique sites, I have seen very few of these really large dishes/bowls around the boot sales and charity shops.    Re damage - being cloud glass probably hides the damage more that in clear or plain glass.
I believe that these large frogs are also difficult to come by, unfortunately.
Anik - would agree with you that this green is very attractive  -  but what's with this "color"  -  why are you siding with the guys on the other side of the pond?

Worth mentioning www.cloudglass.com for anyone else wishing to identify and date Cloud Glass (Davidson or other). I imagine the 7½in frogs are very hard to find - even harder in green. I've certainly never seen one. Chris might be able to help, so I'll give him a nudge.

thanks David  -  and in fact I do now usually go to the Stewart's marvellous site -which I did for this bowl- when needing to make an id.    Without people like the Stewarts and Pamela, who create these encyclopedic images for us to look at, life would indeed be a lot more difficult.    I don't really hold out any serious hope of locating the correct frog on it's own. :cry:

Thanks for the link to the site, David! I've got a big bit of green cloud glass - a No. 2 plinth (would take a bowl with a base diameter of 5.5") but it sits under my Mdina Onion vase and it's staying there.
Plinths are fair game for any glass collector.    :wsh:

Yes, Sue, I agree re your comments about plinths - and I pick them up wherever I see them  -  frogs as well usually.   In fact it's a 7.5 inch frog that I'm missing (not a plinth)  -  am I correct in saying that design Nos. 733/4/5 did not have base plinths.??   If I'm wrong, then I need a plinth that can accommodate a 6.25 inch base!!!!    I will post some plinths perhaps this evening for anyone to have a stab at attribution  -  I probably could work out which they are but it's hot and I have too much other glass work to do, and unlike most of you, I do have to go to work tomorrow :wsh:
