Caithness Lamp Base... (?)

I had a big selection of amethyst glass on here a while ago, and 4 of the pieces were suggested as Caithness lamp bases by Domnhall O' Broin.

I've sourced electrical fittings and shades for all 4, and was just wondering if anyone could definitely verify their Caithness-ness from these more detailed photographs as I'll probably put two of them up for sale soon. Can't find any space for all four to live in.  :(

They're all in this amethyst/heather colourway.

There's no polished pontil. They have very typical Caithness bases.



(This photo was a bit of a pain to take, because they're so bottom-heavy they're like Weebles!  :lol: But the white ring that the light's created is the outermost edge of the base...)

I am surprised to learn that Domhnall O' Broin left Caithness in 1966 to work in USA. I had thought of the designs attributed to him as being 1970's in style. I suppose that's not much different ...ahead of his time ? ...maybe !  

The amethyst/heather colour is possible - I know Caithness did use it or something very similar. I see their lovely spring green more often in the modern ranges. Do you have any known Caithness amethyst/heather item you can compare them with ?

Gosh, I would have thought some of his designs were 1970's also.

I don't have any other Caithness in this exact colourway - all my other CG amethyst is either much darker/bolder or a lot more subdued and muddy -  but the lamp does match quite nicely the colour of the Caithness bowl/vase on p.28 of Nigel Benson's Glass of the '50s & '60s (my lamp isn't quite as reddish as the photo makes it look).

All of his designs at Caithness were before 1967. Many were used until the factory closed.

Gosh, this one goes back a while! I've still got them boxed up in the attic.

I'm not entirely sure that they are Caithness, as all the verifiable lamp bases I've seen from them have been cased in clear. These pieces in question are not.

Also, not sure what I was on about when I said "They have very typical Caithness bases" - because they really haven't. Ah, the smell of inexperience!
