Topic: Rose bowl - who please?

If I may:  I bought this as a 'rose bowl' - well, fair enough, it's a pink bowl with roses on it.  It came with a stump lady (yeah, I know, there are, what..about 5,000 stump ladies from a score of manufacturers...but can anyone tell me what this bowl actually is?

It's Sowerby, although it's not in the catalogues, and belongs with the lady. Don't have time to find more info for you ATM

Yes, it is shown in the catalogues. It is shown on our Sowerby eBook CD rom 2 (George V to Elizabeth II).

Item 2565 Floating bowl. This bowl is also known in blue Carnival Glass and is referred to as "Flora". There is a lady centerpiece but "she" is not known in Carnival (sadly). Cottle states that the Sudenten German designer called Schottner was responsible for this piece.  Popular "wisdom" also suggests that these bowls were made for Cadbury's and filled with chocolates, but I did quite a bit of research on this back in the 1990s and the historian at Cadbury's told me that he felt it was not a piece they had. My feeling is that Rowntrees are more likely to have been the buyers - but that's just a guess on my behalf, not proven fact.

I'm afraid that's so - they are only available as eBooks on CDrom. The printing costs of so very many pages are prohibitively high for us.
