I have searched fruitlessly to find something the same :-\ - I can find ribbed, ruby, shell shaped, gold, but nothing the same as this or this size.  I have searched my small supply of books but they all have items a little more contemporary in shape and the few Millers Antiques I have don't feature anything like this.  I had thought possibly one of the better/well known makers  :ooh: but to be honest I am way out of my limited area of knowledge.  I think it is Murano though and possibly 50's? ;D (Happy to be corrected)
It is a large piece of glass weighing 7 1/2 lb or over 3 kilos.  It is 12" (30cm) long 6" deep (15cm ) and about 5.5 " tall (14cm).
It has some marks/creases from the making and also some bubbles and a couple of bits of frit.  The gold is all on the interior and the entire interior is covered in gold although the photo doesn't show this very well,  then a layer of red then a thick clear casing.
Any help very much appreciated  :)
and thank you
m

Well I can't find anything to identify it as Barovier e Toso.  I have found these two bowls identified as Barovier on Dan Ripley, one a similar shape but no end handles but the base looks the same?? and the other a similar shape with handles but footed  , neither have the same technique of the gold on the interior and no controlled bubbles.

I have also found a bowl with what I think is the same base, has the same colour and the gold in the middle but is a different shape (also ribbed) however I believe that remains unidentified ^-^

I did find another differnt shell shape and colour but with a similar base but I think that was id'd as Fratelli Toso (David was it is you who has one with a sticker?)

So... I am none the wiser.  I think this may remain un id'd for now.

Yes, I do have a ribbed, clam-shell bowl with an FT label. It's not nearly as nice as your piece, though. I've virtually given up trying to identify even good production pieces, beyond basic Murano (see my Picasa album at http://picasaweb.google.com/lasilove/Murano?pli=1&gsessionid=zTkbpg0ZobVJ_hf1hqghLQ#). Either I like it and it stays, or I don't like it, and it is asked politely to leave.

Barovier & Toso is a reasonable guess for this piece, with a couple of other companies somewhat behind. I think when Ripley says Barovier, he means Barovier & Toso. I'm not sure if you agree from what you write.

Here's my FT piece, if it helps.

David and Max thanks!   :)  They were both the pieces I was referring to.  and David what a beautiful album

David, when I said ' identified as Barovier' I was just repeating what it said on Dan Ripley, rather than make an assumption they meant Barovier e Toso because I wouldn't have a clue, so was just reporting it directly.
I couldn't possibly disagree with that as I have no knowledge whatsoever and not a clue about this type of glass  :)  I am assuming it is correct and that it does mean Barovier e Toso as you say.
I was just trying to say that those pieces had similarities with mine but mine wasn't similar enough in techniques if you see what I mean, thereby meaning I couldn't make a good enough link to justify mine being Barovier e Toso.
I felt fairly sure mine was B e T to be honest, until I saw yours with a similar base and I think the same number of 'petals' leading to the ribs on the base and a Fratelli Toso label.  Then I had doubts.  It's almost impossible as you say.
Max, thanks again, that was the bowl I was thinking of and it seems to me (although I could be wrong :) )that they are the same maker?  The technique seems the same, the red colour the same and the scalloped edge.  As well as which, the base is the same and has the same number of 'petals' as well.
But then  they both look very similar bases to David's bowl .... which is Fratelli Toso.  :-\   Yet I haven't been able to link the shape of mine to Fratelli Toso   soooo confusing.

Sorry if I sounded a little strong on the Barovier thing; I didn't mean to. I wasn't sure whether you were aware that generally Barovier  means Barovier & Toso (at least post WWII), so I ended up sounding a little too strong. I don't think you'll know for sure unless you see a piece exactly the same with a label.

It is a very nice piece. And thanks for the kind words about my collection.
