My Carboot Finds, Bjorkshult and Webbs
« on: December 10, 2005, 02:46:14 PM »
Have just staggered back from the car boot sale near me today with some lovely items including these two bits.

The first is a bowl, (which I first thought looked like Nazeing with a rough pontil   ), but it is by C H Wagner for Bjorkshult, who I've found out was chief designer from 1957-1976, and the factory closed in 1978 when Royal Krona collapsed. So I presume it was made in the 1960's?. But have never heard of this company before...

The second is another surprise, to me at least :D , I thought it was maybe Italian, but is it acid etched "Webbs England" on the base and its very very heavy with bubble patterns. I didn't know Webbs were this innovative (sp). Does anyone know when it might have been made?

Barbara,
Sorry, can't help with dates, but your beak vase is just gorgeous
If I know, I'll comment. If I think I know, I'll have a go. If I have no idea, I'll just keep quiet and learn from others, so the next time I'll know.

Hi Della,

It is a stunner, and weighs nearly 4.5kg so it's a solid piece. I still can't belive its a Webbs piece though, is sooooooo nice

I would just love to know how the underside is finished on your Björkshult piece!

Hi Ivo,

It has been hand blown as it has a rough/snapped off pontil mark in the middle of the bowl. Is this right for this piece?

Hi Ivo,

I'm so pleased to have helped you with your piece, its a lovely bowl with bubble pattern inclusions inside the web pattern.

Do you know anything else about the company? Its not one that just rolls off the tongue   ( I wouldn't know how to begin to pronounce it! )

Barbara,

Is it possible to post a close up picture of the label ?

(looks similar to a piece I've been trying to identify also, will try and post a pic tomorrow).

Have found out who made my tall large vase. :D

Its a "Flair" vase and designed by David Hammond & Stanley Eveson in the early 1960's for Webb's. They copied Scandinavian designs with cased glass and bubbles.

Found it in Nigel's glass book, when looking for something else

Have listed it today, and will wait to see what happens
