PW -- Signed ?? CGZ, or CAZ ?? Help...
« on: August 22, 2011, 04:42:39 AM »
 :hi:

This is the last PW that I bought from the UK lady that lives here now.  Three PW's, and the Three Mushrooms for a total of 6 from her......for $60 CAD.

Anyways, I think this is signed.  It looks like CGZ, or CAZ to me.  I have tried googling those initials but I am not coming up with anything, so I am not sure IF I have the initials right ??  I had some thoughts   but if they were what I thought it was --  then why nothing was coming up on Google.  So I will put this out to you folks -- my head hurts  :ho:

Thanks as Always....  :kissy:

CG = Caithness Glass 2 = second
It's not a familiar design to me, at least not in that shape, which might mean it was a design trial sold in the factory shop. I'm sure someone will put me right if I'm wrong about the latter bit.

Hi Rose,

It is CG2 which stands for Caithness Glass second quality. It is a nice weight especially (for $10 CAD). Caithness second does not necessarily mean that the weight was sub-standard, it may have been experiment that was not produced/adopted. The Caithness specialists (which I am not) will look at the 'Bible' (which I do not have at hand at the moment) and tell you which weight it resembles/is meant to be.

PS: Oups! Lustrousstone has already replied! Sorry!

It looks like a moonflower except that they are usually round and not egg shaped.

DUH to me  :ho:

I thought the Z looked like a 2.  The initials of CG, I did think of Caithness -- but when I goolgled CGZ I would get nothing.  So Gee, this is Caithness too  :thup:  .  That is good right?  It still looks well made, and being a second makes it rarer, or not -- or what.  I am new to this as with these purchases -- they are my very First Caithness PW here.............totally.

Never had handled one before..

** Also, I asked a question in the one PW that has the *bubble Circle* in it too.  See that post.

Wow...this is interesting!!

Hi Rose,

You may want to have a look at this Caithness paperweight as it looks very similar to the one you posted here. Accorded to the description in it called Moonbeam (see below)

  Hello Rose, regarding CG seconds, I have one and actually like it very much. A caithness "fleur" which are supposed to be either blue, pink or violet in a swirl it seems, but take a look at this one, not correct to design but still nice. Regards Roger.
