Bagley fish plate design No. 3123
« on: August 18, 2010, 02:08:32 AM »
Hi, can anyone tell me the number of colour and finish variations of this plate? I have seen a few, but I am wondering how many there actually are.
Is there always an etched finish for each clear colour?

How many were Uranium?

Thanks,
John

The book (Bowey and Parsons) says all the Bagley colours, in clear and part frosted, except Jetique: green (uranium and non-uranium), blue, pink, amber and clear. I make that 12 possible variants.

OK, thanks for your prompt reply. I thought there would be more variants. I really like this design and would like to collect at least one of each variant. I have 4 already, so perhaps it's achievable if I keep looking.

My favourite is the clear green Uranium, the colour is so subtle.

Thanks,
John

Yes I like that one too. I'm downsizing my uranium collection and a lot of the Bagley will go, but that will stay.

Hi, next question. Do you know if this plate was also "factory" made as a comport on a stand?

Thanks,
John

I don't know, I've never seen one. I assume you mean a stand stuck on the base rather than screwed on through a drilled hole (some of the designs had a thinner circle in the middle for that purpose).

The fishscale pattern certainly comes as a footed (i.e. with a screwed on chrome stand) cakestand / compote, as I have two - frosted non-U green and frosted pink.I've not seen it with a stuck on stand though.

A local bric-a-brac/antique/gift-ware shop has a green example with the drilled hole so the plate can be placed on a stand. (Ive restrained myself from purchasing it as it has a chip) The hole looked factory drilled no damage to the immediate area around the hole.

The 3123 is the square one and would have to be drilled through full thickness glass. Fishscale actually has a place to drill with reinforced edges. I have several pieces of it.

Hi again. The item I am asking about is a frosted green 3123 with a screwed on chrome stand about 13 centimetres high. I am just wondering if it genuine or a 'DIY' job.

Thanks again,
John
