Prince Rupert's Drops
« on: December 13, 2005, 01:23:06 AM »
Does anyone have any tips on manufacturing a Prince Rupert's Drop?  I may or may not have access to a kiln, though I doubt it.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

I've actually e-mailed the teacher responsible for the "making of" link.  We'll see if he has any good tips.  I'll let you know if he does.

These would appear to be very dangerous. I do hope nobody gets hurt.

There is a lovely presentation set of Prince Rupert's Drops illustrated (No. 236, p68) in Strange & Rare, Glass Circle, 1987.   In the lid is a C18 engraving or woodcut showing them being made and destroyed.

This is the same principle as molybdomancy - dropping molten lead into a bucket of water and then using the resulting shapes for psychic divination.
