I had till now assumed this label was somehow attached to Walther Glas, probably because of all the solifleurs I found it on (and their sellers all saying these were Walther), but after Dirk cast some doubt on that, while researching it further I found an ebay entry with the same style label, but with the letters DK instead of MG. Now I really have to find out what is going on with that label.

Wild speculation: could it perhaps be some sort of export label, with the MG standing for Made in Germany, and the DK indicating Denmark? Or some cooperative label where more than one glashütte is involved with?

The vases I've seen them on (a few examples attached) all look quite 60s - 70s.

The DK version of the label can be found here: http://cgi.ebay.de/Glas-Vase-Etikett-Handgearbeitet-Mundgeblasen-DK-/120610377892

I kindly asked the seller if he would be prepared to send me a close up picture of the DK version of the label. If he agrees, I'll post it here.

And of course one of my solifleurs inclused, with label close up. Detail: all the MG solifleurs I have with this label look slightly dented at the rim. I have four different ones so far, a red and orange one that clearly belong to the same series, and two clear ones slightly heartshaped with a pattern of stripes that I forgot to make a photo of so far...

Hello Astrid,

My solifleur -- though very different from your vase -- has/had the same MG label.

Yes, that has the same pattern as the clear ones I just rushed out to take a picture of.

I've seen one other type on ebay so far: solifleurs with the same square shape as Anik's, but with another colour glass mixed with the clear in for instance black or white strands.

And Sergio, our new member, has a Scandinavian inspired blue vase on his website with this label, not a solifleur (http://glas-vasen.ch/von/A_bis_Z.htm - the first blue vase when selecting MG).

I have so far never seen the DK version of the label anywhere else, or any other letter combination, maybe other forum members can shed more light on that one...

Hello Astrid,

I found the MG label on a List of German Glass manufacturers that was published in the 60s by "Verein der Glasindustrie e.V.", Munich.

The company was
"Marsberger Glaswerke Ritzenhoff GmbH at Niedermarsberg (Westfalen).

They still exist as

Ritzenhoff AG
Sametwiesen 2
34419 Marsberg

More informations on      http://www.ritzenhoff.de/

Hope I could help a little,
Oliver

A million thanks for this info! I´ve been wondering about this label for quite some time too.
Funny thing - I was actually born in Marsberg and went to school there...  ;D

Oliver, that's not a little help, that's a great help! A lot of people were looking for this one. I'll change all the attributions on my site to spread the word.

I found a second label, Ritzenhoff was using in the 60s, probably depending on the product-line.

To complete the information here are the two labels, which were listed:

Thanks. I'm trying to learn more about German post-war glass and many pieces in my collection that I think are German are still lacking in proper attribution. Your help is (and hopefully will be) much appreciated.
