Chinese ?? but wear on Base ??
« on: May 22, 2010, 08:41:18 AM »
Hi, I have this PW.  It is a pretty iridescent color, and egg shaped.  Has a cloud? of white glass also in it.  Base looks like some wear - more than something new (??).  It is about 3.5 inches tall, and 2.25 inches wide.

Anything?  Or once again Nothing.... :spls:

Hi, Rose!  I don't believe your weight is Chinese.  It might have been made after the eruption of Mt. St. Helens (1980) and might contain a bit of the ash from it.  There is a small egg in my collection, etched MSH on the base or side (I have to find it. :-[ )  I've seen weights like this on eBay and think they are not uncommon, most likely made by multiple artists.

Lily :)

Hi Lily:
thanks for that info.  When you find yours, can you post it to see what it is like?  Like I said, appears to have some wear on the base, so just glad to hear that you do not think it is Chinese.....err that.

Thanks, it is still rather pretty, and weighs a good solid chunk....

Notes to SELF:

~ Must get a scale
~ Must get UV light

Hi Rose, your weight looks a bit like one of mine which is marked G E S on the base - made by Glass Eye Studio.  Have a look at the 'Classic Eggs' on their website and see if you think it could be. http://www.glasseyestudio.com/apps/store/default.asp?view=search&searchtype=product+title&keywords=&categoryid=4698

Thanks Leni -- Will check out that site.

I think this is pretty PW.  If PW aren't marked on the bottoms, are they sometimes marked on the sides?  I never checked the sides out at all.... ??

.....then I also realize, some only had labels -- or not marked at all....but I guess I should have looked a bit closer on the sides, just in case...

Hi antiquerose123
ive had a few weights which are marked on the side, Daum, & waterford are a couple who sometimes do this (not suggesting this is one from those companies though  ;))

I have a number of USA weights and MSH(Mount St Helens) certainly had irridescent weights as did GES.  I would expect them to be engraved or scratch marked on the SIDE not the base.  Very few US artists seem to mark on the base - Josh Simpson does I know and I have an Abelman Oil lamp also base marked.
