Tall blue vase I think Mdina?
« on: October 13, 2010, 07:00:18 PM »
Can anyone help me with this one?

It's 360mm tall with a blue/green swirly design.

That's interesting, it looks a bit like the Ming colourway from Mdina but that is not a typical shape for them. I think the flash is making it look very blue.

How is the base finished? Show us a photo. ;D

Is it really that tall?

John

Edit: it has the look of Malta Decorative Glass about it, especially the wonkiness.

Yes it is a little greener than the picture shows, I'm really struggling to get a good image!

It's actually 355mm tall

What's half a centimeter between friends? ;D

That's a bit of a big beast then. I wonder what Sue thinks?

Sue has two of these in Earthtones. Not the most common of shapes, and frequently found without the flange at the top - and an odd roughly ground finish to it.
I have no evidence these were not damaged and then ground, but neither do I have any evidence they weren't finished like that at the studio.
My ground top one is taller than my flanged one -  it's 12.5" tall. The flanged one is 10.5" tall. So I don't reckon sizes were standard.

Mdina. Possibly early-ish Ming, from the '70s, given the unusual shape. Post-Harris though.
Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)
