I agree with Alexander, Mike .... very nice indeed!  Wish the artist made more as mini-paperweights.  Thanks for posting the photos!

My best .... Lily  :)

I agree, I think there would be a real market for more paperweights of this style outside of Japan (as well as inside Japan !). Such a perfectionist and a great talent with a distinctive Japanese style full of wonderful colour combinations from a country full of exotic flowers ...what more can one say !!

 >:D

I'm far more taken with the vintage buttons I found through the link you provided - some are utterly fabulous.
(sorry, I'm well known for my intense dislike of anything floweryand/or pink and to a slightly lesser extent, paperweighty. Personal thing.).

But I should share the site I found, thanks to you!

Certianly some great designs but they are all mostly pressed so it's like comparing a vintage claret from the best vineyards of Bordeaux (beautiful lampwork button) with a young supermarket wine from anywhere (pressed glass button ! )  No comparison ! ...IMHO !  ;)

I'd want my claret fruity, if it were flowery, I'd probably consider it to be off.
For me, there's no comparison either! Give me vintage:P

The Japanese buttons are well made but they do contain many random air bubbles in the clear glass. So perhaps a comparison should really be to a champagne, not a claret. :)

Yes Kev its a valid point ! ......how do you get rid of those bubbles !???

Sue, when I look at antique/vintage lampwork (French) paperweights a Bouquet can look somewhat heavy. The flowers depicted in these buttons and mini paperweights look so light and refreshing one could almost blow the petals away. I think this style is a modern interpretation of the antique French bouquet with as fine a detail as ever you would see in a vintage French one.

Looking beyond the technical issues of bubbles there is really great artistry here !

This talented Japanese artist is indeed a woman!  I have had the pleasure of seeing a piece of her work in person.  It is amazing and the bubbles don't get in the way at all; in fact, the are barely visible except with magnification.  One might just say they are dewdrops on the flowers.  I hope Fujie Kawata will be offering some new buttons/paperweights soon.  In the button I have personally seen, the morning glory in the bouquet is (IMHO) about as close to perfection as someone can come.  If you haven't seen this artist's work up close and personal, keep an eye out for her offerings.  Her asking prices are very reasonable.  I truly believe you will be pleasantly surprised and very pleased.

I totally agree Lily. Fujie's work is real perfection. Even with my untrained eye her  :fwr: are splendid !

I contacted her via ebay and told her of this thread on Glassmessages which she has been following with interest.

She said she would be producing some more buttons shortly but was unsure about the paperweights.

P.S. Here is another one which I bought !
