Hovmantorp label
« on: September 28, 2010, 05:32:17 PM »
Is this a generic label indicating a city or is a label indicating a manufacturer?
The candlestick is 10-1/2" tall (26.5cm)
Thanks, -Buck

Seems to refer to the factory closed in 1978 according to this:

Hey thanks px!  The 1978 date is when Elsa Söderberg (designer) died, not when the factory closed - but very helpful nonetheless.

I'm still not sure when I see references to Hovmantorp glassworks, that it is referring to a specific company or if it's referring to one of various glass factories in and around Hovmantorp.

Anyone know when those clear plastic type lables started replacing paper labels on glass?

No but yes!  :) It was a coincidence she died the same year.
I found some information of the history of the factory from this site. (in Swedish) http://www.antikviteter.net/boktips/hovmantorp.htm where it says the factory closed down in 1978.

But, now that I checked it the closing date could have been in 1976 according to this http://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lista_%C3%B6ver_glasbruk_i_Sverige

Ah, this is great px, Thanks!   Seems spelling of Hofman vs Hovman leads to more information.

Much appreciated!!!
