Stanislav Libensky Award
« on: September 27, 2010, 11:53:22 AM »
Dear friends,
in Prague hase been opened exhibition Libensky Award - Glass.Classic. Not everybody will get a chance to visit Prague until 25/10/2010, so I made few very poor pictures. Here is the part - Glass.Classic. It gices overview about Czech glassmaking in last century. The texts are in both Czech/English - so possibly you will discover something interesting about Czech glass designers.
I have to say, that I am not happy with the selection of designers an pieces, but this exhibition is much better than no exhibition.

Note please the beauty of neighbourhood of Prague's castle.

Great pictures of some design classics! Even if eccentrically chosen, there are many masterpieces of post war glass deisgn in the exhibition,

Jindrich, thank you for letting us see the Glass.Classic Exhibition.  :)

I've looked at the photos several times, but I have to say, I'm not very impressed with the exhibition and the selection of pieces.  Perhaps I was expecting something more familiar.  My interpretation/understanding of the innovation, beauty and artistic importance of Czech glass differs from what is presented.   :spls:

But then again, maybe I'm just being a bit grumpy.  :usd:

EDIT:  I've just realized that my first sentence (after the thanks) repeats what Jindrich originally stated...  that wasn't my intention.  Sorry.

There are some stunning pieces there in your first link - thank-you yet again for sharing this great glass with us!

I immediately recognised the "Blancmange" piece by Roubickova, as I am lucky enough to own a copy of the book published by "The Studio Glass Gallery" on Roubickova and Roubicek. Not my favourite piece by a long way - but it should be remembered when this was designed - 1967.

They were light-years ahead of the rest of the world. :thud:

I love the optics of Vaclav Ciglar's Object - someone could make some spectacular photographs with it :). (Well, Simon Bruntnell could make spectacular photos with it anyway :) )
