Salvadore Ysart?
« on: October 14, 2010, 06:21:09 AM »
I bought this weight today at an estate sale.  My gut instinct is that it's a Salvadore Ysart, but since I haven't seen many of them, I'd like verification from the experts.   Anyone want to weigh in? Since I continue to have trouble with posting pictures here, I put the pictures in a Picasa web album.  I used my gemscope for close ups of some of the canes.   I haven't done UV testing yet, but I can if that'll help.   Thanks.

Looks very like a Salvador Ysart to me.

Agreed.

These closepack weights are usually a little untidy in part but always good for examples of the better canes assumed to be for Salvador Ysart's personal use.

The "roses on stem" cane is one of very few "picture" or "silhouette" canes to have been made by the Ysart men. Amongst the better canes are examples of ones that are often seen in what were probably daily production weights from the Ysart Brothers (Vasart) period.

I guess this one is a little over 3 inch diameter.

Thank you both for confirming my guess.  It's a good sized weight at about 3.5 inches.   My lighting makes it look much brighter in the photos than it is in real life.  The dome is actually lavender colored glass, so it looks quite dark in person.  Any idea what kind of value a weight like this has?  I won't be selling it, but it's always nice to think I got a bargain (I paid $75 US)
