Vintage Waterford cut crystal vase, range please
« on: August 20, 2011, 05:30:53 PM »
I've been through replacements.com and ebay but I can't find the cut never mind the vase itself. Can anyone help please? The base is marked with the post-1950, pre-1990s mark. The glass must be 0.25 in thick and it's obviously hand cut.

Hi Christine,
Just had a pleasant morning going through the replacements.com website searching for your vase, but couldn't find it either. There are however plenty of images missing there.  The nearest I could find was the Pineapple range, but not really close at all! Sorry I couldn't help.

I've just gone through 3 different (probably contemporary) catalogues - nothing like it, sorry.

I searched various places last night too - replacements.com and ebay and the Waterford site itself and several Waterford resellers but saw nothing anything like it... curious!  :huh2:

Christine, is it worth an email asking if they can help?  http://uk.wwrd.com/en/uk/customer-service/contact-us/page/contact/

From c1970 catalogue '212/937 VASE' made only at 9". Yours varies in that the stem in the catalogue was uncut, however a similar design 212/936 has the same cut stem as yours.

Thanks Frank. I never did contact Waterford but I did sell it to a long-time Waterford collector in the States, who told me this yesterday, though he claims not to be an expert, but he does know some of the former workers.

After examining the vase up close, I now believe that it was made between 1962 and 1966. Certain details, (like the oblong cuts around the top of the foot) and the prismatic cuts in the neck plus the bottom star cuts (I have seen a few earlier pieces that actually had flat bottoms- no star cuts) lead me to this time period. The prismatic cuts in the neck were done until the late 80's or early 90's but were much less common after the mid 70's... I do not believe that this particular vase was ever offered for retail in the US.
