Thomas Webb green spiral Bowl
« on: October 17, 2010, 11:31:38 AM »
I would appreciate any further infomation on this bowl please since it appears to be quite out of my (small) knowledge area.

In a thread on the "Nazeing collection" a while ago, knowledgeable GMB member Nigel Benson kindly attributed this outrageous large bowl, with large bubble decoration and a lime green spiral pattern as being a "Thomas Webb" bowl. Would anyone be able to recommend a publication mentioning this bowl, or to perhaps name the designer and approximate year of the design?

I liked it as soon as I saw it and thought it looked late 1950's, early 1960's blown and moulded, rather like some postwar Czech designs. I was quite shocked to see a Thomas Webb of Stourbridge attribution from such a reliable source at GMB! I am trying to help a friend identify this bowl. The photos are identification pictures rather than artistic ones.

Any further information would be very welcome.

Thanks to a precise email from Mr Nigel Benson, I have found out more information about this bowl.

"Designed by Stan Eveson in 1961 for Thomas Webb. They come in this lime green, blue or
amythest, and can be bowls or vases."

A great result, many thanks to Nigel for this information,

Is the green uranium glass? It looks as if it might be.

I'm not sure, but attributed to Eveson and given the date I think this would be from the Flair range? I've yet to see any catalogue that lists this range, but I would dearly like to know how extensive it was.
