Rihimaen, but how old?
« on: December 23, 2005, 08:42:55 PM »
A lovely Rihimaen Lasi bowl with label in really citric uranium glass. Its 7.75 x  3 inches and weighs 1.4kg. It looks a bit like the standard trifle type bowl except the sides have a sort of alcove effect that make it seem really chunky. Pressed glass, four-part mould, ground base rim.

Is it really Rihimaen? The colour is right.  If so how old is it and who designed it? Anyone got any ideas please

I think that's the label from the 1990's. Hopefully I'm right! I don't know if it was used in the 80's too.

No idea whatsoever about the rest, sorry!  :)

Lustrousstone (not sure of your name, sorry!) that's a really odd piece, isn't it?  The colour looks like it could be ok, but the style! Oooh strange isn't it?

I think this calls for more books!

Thanks both.

My name is Christine BTW.

Max do you have any thoughts about the label date, it looks as though its always been there.

Oops, my bad.

When was the triangular transparent one in use? I had it in my head that that one was the 1970's one and this pawprint was the one they used just before they closed. Can't remember where I picked up that nugget of misinformation... maybe I dreamt it!  :D

This bowl is in Riihimäki catalogue 1915, it was in production until seventies.
It was made in green, yellow, clear, brown and blue.

About the Riihimäen Lasi labels:

The paw label was designed by Helena Tynell and in use from 1969 onwards.
The triangular RR seems to have been used mainly for export and at least in the most hectic years of export i.e. 1966-68
