Help with ID of maker of this paperweight
« on: October 23, 2010, 11:51:47 AM »
Nothing spectacular with this weight but good enough quality to make me wonder who made it? It has a concave pontil mark and is a substantial, heavy glass weight 3.25 inches diameter. It was among a large collection of Strathearn weights I purchased recently.
Any help appreciated.

Ronnie

Thanks Dave. Following on from your info I have started researching on internet and it certainly bears resemblence to some I can find which come from the Milville area of Southern New Jersey. More surfing required.

I have several several different versions of this paperweight and they come up quite regularly on Ebay but whether they are all from the same maker I do not know, I would doubt it.
good luck with the research

Ronnie, I believe your frit weight may be made by Gentile Glass.  You can read about the Gentile family in American Glass Paperweights and Their Makers.  Pages 61-62 give some information about these "motto" weights.
