Glass vase signed Luciano Minguzzi, strange
« on: October 29, 2010, 03:09:21 PM »
Hello,

I just bought this glass vase. I'm confused as to why a sculptor who did not work in glass would have signed an art glass vase. If it were forged it seems like they would use a famous Murano glass artist. Any help attributing this would be greatly appreciated. Also what would you call the technique?

Is it glass? It looks like ceramic; you can see wheel marks on the base and bubbles in the glaze.

I just bought it online so I don't have it yet. It was described as glass and the seller had amazing gorgeous items all described correctly as far as I can tell.
I'll just have to wait til I have it in hand to answer that question definitively.

In that case you shouldn't be posting the pictures here unless you have the seller's permission. Have you?

No I don't and I did not realize that was an issue. I will take them down and repost a question when I get the item

The photo is the seller's copyright and this is a public forum, so we respect that. http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,24434.0.html

A moderator's done it.   ;)  I corrected your spelling of the artist's name too.  One 'g', two 'z's' as per the photo.    :)

I apologize for using the sellers pictures and will happily post my own when it gets here.

I've looked at  the auction and pictures over and over and over again and I do not doubt it is glass. The seller is a professional with a spotless reputation and made a point of the fact that the vase is glass...twice (as it does not look like glass in the photos). I also have seen a lot of signatures in glass and this signature would make no sense on a pottery piece. Looks to be diamond point.

I've been researching like one possessed and have found a tie between Luciano Minguzzi the Italian sculptor and Ermanno Nason the glass artist and IVR Mazzega, it looks as though Nason while working for Mazzega did some collaborative pieces with artists including Picasso and many other highly respected artists.

I do realize this would an an outside chance at best but one I would hope to get a absolutely with out a doubt not possible from the experts here so that I can just appreciate a pretty vase and not hope for more than it is.

Thank you, Kelly
