Hello!  :hi:

The first Perthshire looks unsigned.  If so, it would be 1969-78.  The pattern is 1-1-2-3.

The second definitely has a 'P' cane.  That would make it 1982-97.  The pattern is 1-1-2-2.

The book The Complete Guide to Perthshire Paperweights is an invaluable resource for identifying the many varied and beautiful Perthshire paperweights.

Lily :)

(I hope someone will come along and confirm the above information for you.)

Does the book credit individual makers and designers for their work?
Who wrote it, have you got an ISBN?
I think Frank's been searching for this info!

It was written by Colin & Debby Mahoney and Gary & Marge McClanahan. ISBN 0 - 933756 - 24 - 0.

Tell you who designed and who made what?

There is a small section which mentions that some weights have canes which identify artists - AM for Anton Moravec; JA for Jack Allen; JD for John Deacons; P McD for Peter McDougall; JP for Johne Parsley (who collaborated with Peter McDougall) are all mentioned.  If an illustrated paperweight has one of these canes in it then, yes, it is described as such.

I take it it's not comprehensive then, Ronnie?

There really seems to be a dearth of info. about makers and designers when it comes to pwts - and for giving them credit for their work and artistry. grrrrrrrrrrowl!

Just a few weights in the Special Edition section, Sue.  The book is wonderful with stunning photographs cataloguing each General, Limited Edition, Special Edition, Christmas and Annual Collection paperweight. However, very short of information on the artists themselves. Mind you, the book seems to have set out to be a collector's guide to the paperweights and as such fulfils that purpose admirably. Perhaps we need a companion guide to the designers themselves.
Ronnie
P.S. I have a book - Paperweights of the World - which features a fair number of paperweight makers and their paperweights as well as a number of glass studios. Another beautiful book full of stunning pics.

I noticed at the Conference in Edinburgh there is a dearth of info about designers and makers of Caithness weights, in the Caithness centre in Crieff, there is a dearth of info about makers and designers.....
I was just wondering if it is a basic "paperweight collecting thing" not to take an interest in those who actually design and make the pieces?

Thanks for answering my questions though Ronnie!
