confirmation for W/Fs M74 water jug.
« on: December 02, 2010, 01:12:56 PM »
since I not infrequently get these 'blue' pieces wrong, would just appreciate confirmation please that this is indeed a W/Fs M74 water set jug - in Saphire.   Height is about 6.75 inches.     Can someone also tell me please the date range when this set might have been made.   Thanks in advance. :)     You see Emmi, I can do a short post ;)

If it is this one will be c 1950 Sapphire Blue, I say "if" because I have something really similar which is not Whitefriars, and it is really difficult to tell the difference.

thanks - I assume you are saying that you don't have a W/Fs example?     What is it then that tells you that your example is not??  :)

It is packed away so haven't got it in view, but it was something about the way the foot is attached to the body.............perhaps if you put a better more "profile" pic up, it may be more clear to me if it is or not.  How does it compare with the catalogue photo?

thanks - it looks similar to the catalogue pic., and not easy to detect differences - although on the catalogue there may possibly be a short 'outward' step prior to the flattening out of the main foot (that's if it does flatten) - sorry I can't be more accurate.   The foot on mine 'rises' at a steeper angle, perhaps  -  and when flicked it produces what I think of as that high quality W/Fs resonating long  'ding'.   I have attached a couple more pics. - and hope they may help. :)

I am 99.9% sure yours is w/F..............if I remember rightly mine had a very short "stem"..........which was the area of doubt.

Emmi - my thanks for all your help with this request, and good to know that my jug 'appears to be bona fide' - I am only sorry that yours is not ;).    As I have mentioned, it is the 'ding' on some of these W/Fs pieces that is so amazing - I almost feel I need to go around the house 'flicking' bowls and jugs (how sad can you get :ooh:).   Now all I need are a couple of tumblers to go with the jug - anyone?? :)
