Scandinavian or not
« on: December 05, 2010, 12:01:00 AM »
Whilst out on a glass hunt I picked up this at the same time as a Whitefriars penguin so have to ask as I don't know anything about it. Weight 360 grams, Height 9.5 inches, width 2 inches. Flat base with a ground and polished pontil, thanks in advance. Sue

At first glance it doesn't look Scandinavian, but it may be that I'm not seeing the piece clearly. Is it all one colour? Square, rectangular or oval? Textured or smooth?
In other words, some additional photos would help enormously.

Sue, a clear shot of the base would be of great help.  Personally it seems like modern Chinese but if the base is well finished it may be Scandinavian.

Hi all and thanks for the replies, having looked at it again by the window there is no wear to the base so probably modern. Sue

Sue:

Thanks for the new photos. The base doesn't seem Chinese, but neither does the piece look Scandinavian to me. I wonder if Eastern European is an option.

I agree with David, it seems far to well finished to be Chinese, and not quite what I would expect from a Scandinavian piece.

it was a £1 buy, it is amethyst in colour but wonky looking, rim is thicker than the base, cased but "wonky looking" probably a £1 but like it anyway. Thanks all Sue.
