Update received on Saturday from Nigel Benson, who is having problems posting on the board at the moment, so I've undertaken to update this important topic.

Note the piece concerning John Cauldwell of Phones4u. He is proposing to buy the Museum lock stock and barrel in order to save it!! We await the outcome,  as legalities have to be overcome... perhaps some good news to start 2012??  It's even being discussed at ministerial level in Government.

Hi,

Thanks for posting Anne, much appreciated  :)

The ATG has now changed there home page for the week, so have a look at this:

Croosed fingers.....but what a daft situation we find ourselves in when the law is used to access things that were never meant to be used as an asset of the company!!

Cheers, Nigel

Seems the case should go to the House of Lords! UK law is based on precedence and such a significant decision could not only affect trust held collections but also those of the British Museum, for example. Only the Lords can bring the meaning of the donations to a trust vs. the is later law into a cohesive ruling that properly interprets intention. The government cannot do that and indeed would be probably be eager for a means of selling off museum collections.

I agree with your comments Frank.

I had a conversation with Adam the other day, he pointed to The Tate as an even better example of something that could be at risk if this law isn't re-interpreted - especially given the link to a long term household name industry!!

"a tad frustrating" - just reading the thing trying to glean info from the excessive and ludicrous wordiness!

I'm agreeing with the Earl of Clancarty, he seems to be the only one with his head screwed on the right way round, IMNSHO.

As I understand the collection is now being valued to determine market value. The UK government are going with court decision. But all very quiet last few months.
