Seagull paperweight, marked F.B. ID = Caithness Fishing Float!
« on: December 18, 2010, 07:14:27 PM »
This paperweight (images below - with kind permission of the owner) is right now offered on ebay as Caithness - because seller got it in a Caithness box. It is described as "... sea gull flying over the waves. A transparent glass with a light blue wave pattern rising from the base. The top of the paperweight has a shell motif. Size is 3.75 inches high. ... Signed on the pontil mark with the initials F.B.". Upon enquiry the seller added that the "F.B." was scratch signed.

I very much doubt this is Caithness - but have nothing else to offer: any idea what this could be?

Oooops - I'm proven wrong: Helen MacDonald informs me that this is one of a series of hollow engraved 'fishing floats' made either in the late seventies or early eighties.

Thanks, Helen, for correcting me!

A friend had one of these a while ago in pale green, same motif and engraved initials. I will attempt to track it down for a photo, trouble is I think they sold it.
