Beautiful Venetian swan, can you identify the label please?
« on: January 30, 2011, 04:33:34 PM »
Hello all,  I have this beautifully made Murano Swan,  but the label is tatty and almost unreadable.  Does anybody recognise it please.
Many thanks in advance for any help. :sun:

 :hi: there:

I think the label says CAMER GLASS on it.  Found another label with that on it (for name only) as the label there is different, but the item kinda reminds me of yours....

That label says on it CAMER GLASS NEW YORK also.   So might be on the right path  :X:  Here from another site where lots of us are Members there too.

I think they are an Import company:  http://www.fossilfly.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=1434

.....and here is some more info about CAMER:

Here is one with the SAME label as your too  :rah: :rah:  http://www.fossilfly.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=297

Added some more Info for you here, as I am on a Roll here:    :24:

http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/5664707  Same label here and here is some other examples of the Glass stuff that CAMER Imported (lamps, etc):  http://www.1stdibs.com/furniture_search.php?i_creator=Camer

There are a couple of Salviati swans that have a similar form at https://sites.google.com/site/muranozoo/birds-by-salviati. The Barbini swans that I've seen all have a smaller bill. There is a Barbini swan in the zoo, too. Camer Glass is a New York company that imported from at least two companies Murano companies that I know of. Check your swan against the Salviati ones and see if you think the forms are the same. If you do, then it is probably Salviati for Camer Glass.

I often wonder, however, if there was not some long billed Barbini swans. I've never read this one way or another.

Thank you Rose and Anita,  you are both so helpful.  :kissy: :kissy:

I have looked at all of them, and the conclusion I have come to is that it is by Barbini....aren't I lucky!!  :rah: It was one of my earlier glass buys,  when I only collected Murano glass birds.

I have some others and will be asking for help with those,  so stand by for more questions over the next few days!!!! :ho:
