Bimi? ID
« on: January 17, 2011, 07:49:43 PM »
The name Bimi came into my head when I found this in a charity shop today? Any ideas? It has 3 canes & what what I describe as adventurine running through it.

It was a bargain but has a chip to the underside of the rim under one of the canes.

I'm not sure what it is but I have two in different colours that were bought for me from TK Maxx about 18mths ago.  I thought they had a label but I can't think I would have peeled it off so perhaps not.  I've always thought they aren't Murano glass -  I thought maybe Polish, but that might have just been the colours of mine and the way it swirled.

Were you thinking Bimini?  Perhaps you were recalling their snake forms.

Sory english isnt my first language and i often spell things as they would traslate into my native language.

Yes I was thinking Bimini, surely these arnt polish? The quality is far to good for Kronso or other sutch work.

Krosno is high quality stuff!  These flower thingys seem to be popping up new all over; some are recycled Spanish glass, others are not. Chinese seems more likely for these if they have canes and aventurine (though I can't actually see any aventurine. A side on shot against a plain background would be helpful).

I'm fairly sure these are Chinese Murano. I've seen these in TKMaxx, with labels.
Shugdens,  :thud: I wouldn't have known english wasn't your first language at all - you have an incredible command of it!

Do not say one word against Krosno glass, though.  >:D It's fabulous stuff.

I believe these types of flowers are Italian, just not Murano.  Here is a similar one I found.  I too have seen these flowers in TJ Maxx also with the same labels on them.

Without a label, they could be from anywhere, including the one on ebay, which doesn't actually say who the manufacturer was. Murano and Italy have much more selling power as keywords than China or Russia or Romania.

I think what we're saying is it's newish.

We learn English along side Hebrew in school & i've lived in the UK since I was young, not that I'm that old anyway  :sun: I just tend to spell english as its sounded rather than spely as you would with hebrew.
I speak german, spanish & a little arabic as well.

I flog all this lot on the market, i'm a little disheartend with glass today.

Bimini glass is incredibly fine and delicate - and mostly miniature.
 :D
I knew Hebrew is a much more straightforward language than english - when I was studying reading development and disorders, I found a fascinating paper on dyslexia in Hebrew schools and compared it with the findings in english. There were several proposed sub-types of dyslexia from english cognitive psychology  :-X
researchers (something I did not agree with - they do not study the brain or it's growth and development). As these subtypes were not found in Hebrew, the proposed subtypes were clearly an artifact of the stupid and irreglar features of the english language, and of poor reading skills, not evidence of lots of different sorts of dyslexia.

This gave me the freedom to discuss the problems from the proper perspective - that of brain development. :rah:
