Topic: Robin Egg Heavy Glass bowl (gold flecks)

I have this bowl.  Pretty sure Murano ? (Barbini)?  Very heavy thickness, and weight.  Bottom shows lots of wear -- and lots of pits in it.  Why so many pits marks on the bottom?  Is from when it was made?  It does not matter to me, as it gives it character, and I like it.  Kinda a quilted diamond pattern with Bubbles.  Gold Mica flakes in it.  Color is Robin Egg Blue.  Took some pics with flash, and w/o flash.

Any idea on Maker, and the Year?

Pretty bowl, Rose. The little pits on the bottom are from air bubbles. When the base was ground and polished, it opened them to the outside. I see this sometimes with Fratelli Toso paperweights.

I don't know who made your bowl. I've seen many of these types of bowls. I used to see them attributed to Barbini on eBay back in the old days. I don't recall ever seeing one with a label, though. A good venture for someone would be to do a site on Murano ashtrays that have been positively attributed (label or good documentation).

"Robin egg" is an americanism - only there do they lay blue eggs.

Robin egg Blue is a color description based on the egg color of the "American Robin".  Although called an American Robin, the bird is actually not closely related to the Robin Red Breast found in Europe. It was only named such by homesick settlers who thought it resembled the bird they knew at home. The American Robin is actually closely related to the European Blackbird. The English Robin Red Breast is a much smaller bird than the American Robin.

Hence, it is not an Americanism, but an accurate term applied to describe a color found on a North American bird egg.   :thup:

Whatever color, it is still a descriptive word to use on the net, or another *tag word* to describe a color wherever in the world, and wherever on the Net.  Just another word to help define a certain item/image one is looking for -- for a match.

Made over-the-Pond, but stated in American color terminology. 

Always good to expand one knowledge of Tag Words (descriptive)  :thup: For example, I had never heard the word Plinth before till speaking with people over-the-pond.  I would have just googled *a block of wood* or something like that.  But now have learned there is another word for it.

i had 1 of these,
darker blue than yours, no eggshell effect.

It had a blue foil Tosso label.

Great to hear from you.  I haven't seen you on the boards in a while.  I too have a robin's egg blue bowl.  Except mine is in a different shape as yours but same color and same effect (I have seen several of these types of bowls in many colors, shapes & sizes).  Here it is:
