Unusual piece of Strathearn to show.
« on: February 13, 2011, 02:34:18 PM »
 :hi:

I found this recently - I have never seen or heard of optic ribbed Strathearn, and I've never seen or heard of a clear yellow piece either.  This large bowl is both.

(The first picture shows it against a dark background to show the acid-yellow, slightly opaque, yellow blobs which give it the full colour - however, the colour changes completely in different lights and when looked at from different angles.)

Big beast, 9.75" diameter, 3.5" tall.

Yes - the traditional sort of copper/gold aventurine around the rim.

Sorry - got caught up with the very unusual colouring and the ribbing and forgot to mention that bit.
There are flecks of darker glass in the main body, but the whole colour is made from the yellow flecks in a clear base.
It's my brother's birthday present.

It is not (IMNSHO) a beautiful beast. I really love a lot of Strathearn, but not this bit, I'm afraid.

I'm showing it here because of the very highly unusual features. I thought they should be noted.

He collects Ysart glass Rose - who else would I get it for????  ;D
He's a lovely brother. :sc:

I actually prefer that one you showed - but you can see from the other bits there, all the yellow is solid opaque, and the big bowl is not optic-ribbed.

Umm, there's me, my brother and his partner who all collect glass - we all started at the same time, about 11-12 years ago. They went for Ysart, I went for Mdina.

But my brother and I have collected stuff since we were very young - pebbles, shells, skeleton leaves, paintings - we had our own versions of the Victorian Curiosity cabinet..... we're just a couple of accumulators. :pb: :pb:
