cloudy bubbly streakyish bowl - plum colour and white streaks
« on: February 19, 2011, 05:49:04 PM »
umm, I bought this for a two reasons a) I hoped it was a maker I want to collect (now I've got a feeling I got it wrong :-\ ) and b) it sits well with my bubbly collection (variety of different makers) and adds a different colour, so reason b) worked out ok.
So, I looked this up before I bought it and still went ahead and bought it anyway, but I cannot work out who it's by.
I thought it wasn't Monart, Vasart or Strathearn.  I hoped it wasn't Nazeing  because I am not keen on the colours or the shapes that I see around much so wouldn't want to collect any more (which is why I've now got a feeling I got it wrong).  I also hoped it wasn't Alum Bay as I've given all my other pieces away as presents.  Thereafter looking through pics on the net and Charles Hajdamach's book I can't find a match (or at least not the one I wanted to find )
Edited to add size 5 1/4"wide by 2 1/4" high and *very* slightly oval rather than truly circular and the dark area at the base is lighting only as it has a thick clear casing at the base.  It's heavy for it's size, well made I think.  The rim curves in gently at the top over the bowl sort of.
So... any thoughts please would be very much appreciated  :)
thanks so much
m

Is it Nazeing then ?  does anyone know or can  anyone discount this for me?  It's the closest I could come taking into account the bubbles the colour and the pontil mark and I believe I read that Nazeing has a thick clear casing sometimes?.  But I just had a doubt as the effect isn't as 'cloudy/milky' round the bubbles as the pieces I have seen (maybe a different decor though?) and I can't find a match to the way the base is.
I can't match the shape on Ysart glass site or the colouring I don't think, so that's why I've discounted Monart, Vasart and Strathearn.
Help much needed please.
Many thanks

Well  :ooh: that's what I was hoping but daren't say.  If it is I will be so thrilled.  If it isn't c'est la vie I guess.
So, hope reigns still.
thanks John

Wrong sort of bubbles for Nazeing - but I think that makes them wrong for Grey-Stan too.....

Thanks Sue :)
I have had another look at the book now and compared in daylight, and actually now I do think it is remarkably similar to page 88 Gray Stan vase in a very similar colour ( the one in the book just looks very *slightly* brighter than mine though in real life - my photos on here don't show mine as plum as it is :-\)  The bubbles in that one look the same I think with a minute rim of colour round them, as does the swirl effect on the body of the piece.
Things are still looking up I think  :X:

thanks so much JP,  Nigel has also very kindly helped me before with my other vase  :) .  I don't like to ask until I have exhausted all research options, but I am well and truly stuck on this one  now as I don't have an actual to compare it to.  I've got Vasart, Strathearn (no Monart mind you but I don't think it is that) and various other bubblys, but not anything like this one.  If anyone spots Nigel on the board then, please could you ask him if he has time, to look in here as well?  :kissy: Many thanks.
