Pinky/purple irridescent? vase - by whom?
« on: January 13, 2006, 02:14:06 AM »
Does anyone recognise this little vase please? It isn't neodymium glass but it does vary between pink and purple with the irridescent finish.  It is similar to, but not the same as, Stuart's Cascade design. There are absolutely no marks on it - the only label is the one visible in the photo which reads Hand Cut.

Hello Anne, Royal Brierly does a fuchsia pattern. There's a slightly more complex cut that is older, and one that is still being produced, as far as I know. I don't know if this is what your vase is, though. Sorry not to be of more help!
Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)

Thanks for the suggestion, Sue, I checked the Royal Brierley pattern and it's not the same - the RB one has more stamens to each fuchsia and the flowers are much larger in proportion to the rest of the design. (I like the RB fuchsias - shall keep a watch for a piece of that. I already have the Stuart Cascade fuchsia design on two small bowls.)

The only thing close that I have seen so far is this:
ebay

A long shot since it does not have the same pattern or shape. The colour is the same but no mention of an irridescence.

Infact, forget I ever said it.

Still looking.  :)

Thanks TC, it may be a hard one to track down as it doesn't appear to be very old. It could even be something that formed part of the giftware range at M&S for all I know! My mother bought it for me recently as she knows I like glass, and she would be thrilled if I could name it's origins.

Someone is selling one of these on eBay currently and another similar but smaller vase which carries a Bohemia Glass label  http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150304671510 - I'd not considered Bohemia for these.

Just a note about the description that's with the image - it looks to me more like it was cut than etched.
