Dino Martens ?
« on: March 01, 2011, 01:41:24 PM »
I have this wonderful piece of Murano Glass which I have been told was probably designed by Dino Martens. Spectacular piece at 17 ½ inches tall. Had it for a while and then saw a similar one on the Antiques Roadshow where Andy  McConnell identified it as an example of Martens. Can anyone confirm one way or another. Im an 18th cen glass collector rather than Murano so not really able to do so myself…

No way sorry.  These are brand new as far as I know (as in made in the last decade or so), don't think they're even Murano.

I agree with Wayne.  I have never seen a design such as yours by Dino.  I would say your ewer is newer also and probably not Murano in origin.  Striking effect though.

I agree with both responders in both threads - no way Murano, far less a named designer or maker - these are contemporary and most likely Chinese. Big, with very bright colours, sometimes very attractive indeed, sometimes they miss the mark completely, but improving all the time. I believe there is now part of China which has been named Murano, so they can accurately put Murano on the labels - very useful if they're making things for the tourist market in Venice and it's surrounding area!
