Exbor fish
« on: March 26, 2018, 07:10:34 PM »
Hello. I have a exbor fish. It is in a deep purple/brown glass, it is heavy. It has ribs on each face, one side horizontally the other side vertical. It is 22cm from mouth to tip of tail. There is an acid etche Exbor logo to the base. Are the rare and what is its catalogue name? Thanks, Don

Great piece!
Exbor fish are always desirable (simply for their beauty and workmanship), though several models are produced until today.
Yours is imho a rare piece, and looking at the acid stamp definitely made before 1990...

Here is a link to a Novy Bor catalogue in Italian (from the 1970s I think) on Jindrich Parik's great website https://www.cs-sklo.cz/ showing your fish: >> Link

And an Exbor catalogue from 1969 with several different fish >> Link

Oh, Oh, Oh... I am so jealous.... No question about it, it is one of the rarest and most desirable, at least by me...
It is a wonderful find. Take good care of it.

Sorry Assaf, I have been away on my holidays so have not been able to reply. I will indeed take care of it while I have it. I am a collector of paperweights of the round ‘blob of glass’ type (my wife’s descriptive term for paperweights which rides roughshod over the fact that they were created by artisans who, through years of practice have managed to  manipulate hot molten glass of a myriad of colours into beautiful timeless objects of art, so I am unlikely to keep it long, but I will tell you should I decide to sell it so you may have a chance to satisfy your desire! 😊
