Polish Angel, can anyone identify the signature please?
« on: March 14, 2011, 03:35:56 PM »
This is an art glass angel, etched and fused techniques....I think that's right!!
It is clearly signed, but I can't find out who it is by.....I was told it was made in Poland.
In one of the photos, you can see the scorched window sill I mentioned in a previous thread....so beware of putting glass orbs on the sills!!
Please can someone turn them for me....they have come out lying down!!
Rosie.

I had a wonderful holiday in Krakow a few years ago - stayed in the Hotel Alexander, (can't remember the name of the road it's in) there was an Art Glass shop in the same road, one of only two I found there (apart from Jablonski and lampwork animals and christmas tree baubles). I think the two shops I found were related - the other was in the main square.

I bought an orange-and-yellow-enamelled stripey cat in the shop for my brother's partner - it was of exactly the same sort of construction as your angel - flat base, upright slab of glass (both with cellulite texture), with etched marks to delineate features, artist signed.
Can't for the life of me remember the name of the artist - I gave the info. to the recipient, goodness only knows where it might be now!
Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)

Hi Rosie,
Your angel is Polish, by young designer Ida Dąbrówka Huk.  You can see some of her work here:  http://galeriabb.com/bb/english/index.php?t=huk&m=huk

By the way, my husband read the signature for me.  He's a good fellow. :)

P.S. Sue, Ida also designed cats... http://www.tykwa.com/produkt.php?prod=156

Thanks, Anik. I thought it would be the same artist - and I hoped you'd pop in and be able to help out!
The stripey cat I bought was very like that - with a lovely smile!
(Michael wouldn't buy me any bits by Stanislaw Borowski.  )

Sue, I would have bought the pussy cat if I had seen it too!!

Rosie, she's now the right way up. And I'll move this over to Glass Resolved as Poland isn't covered by the Czech/Bohemia forum.

If we're a bit slow with Mod stuff please be patient as we're a bit short-handed at the moment.
Cheers! Anne, da tekniqual wizzerd

Ah, but Rosie, I wasn't familiar with the work... You mentioned 'Polish', so I took a look at the signature, saw the 'ą' letter, and asked my husband to read the rest of the scribble.  I've never heard of Ida Dąbrówka Huk.

I'm not particularly fond of her pieces, or of any of the pieces in the gallery... I always thought these things were imported from China.
:-[

But I'm glad you are pleased, and I'm pleased your piece has been ID'd.  :kissy:
