Murano Swan & Duck ~ Both Barbini? Or?
« on: March 14, 2011, 06:29:06 PM »
I found this gorgeous swan and duck pair recently. The swan comes complete with it's Alfredo Barbini label so no worries about attribution there, but I'm wondering about the duck.
On the one hand it has identical coloring to the swan, the blues are exactly the same in tone. On the other hand however, the controlled bubbles aren't nearly so precise and the base shows a completely different story. Both are ground and polished but... well I don't know how to describe them but you can see what I mean in the photos.

So. Question up.... is the Duck Alfredo Barbini or someone else that just happened to mix exactly the same color of blue for their work? and as a learning point.... if they are both Barbini why the differences in production?

This is a tough one. The bullicante is different than the swan. The duck looks a bit like AVeM or Fratelli Toso, but the color goes into the wings. The AVeM and FT ducks I've seen have clear wings. The tail is much thinner than the usual Barbini ducks. I can tell it is a good duck, but I am not sure by who.

Thanks Anita. At least you agree with me that it's not the same maker as the Swan which gives me grounds to look elsewhere :) I'll see what I can find.
