Item id please glass lamp
« on: March 21, 2011, 04:46:01 AM »
Cruising an oppie looking for a bag and found this. Its 30cm high and 20 in diameter at its widest.  I know know if it started off as a lamp and the cord isnt the original. Any ideas where is came from? it only has the sticker Elizabeth, however I dont think Elizabeth wanted it.

The glass and shape look like Murano. I don't know which of the companies made the lamp, however. There were a few companies that made this shape. This is the first I've seen with this type applied decoration. Very pretty.

It would help others to assess things if you could state the evidence you have that it is Venini - Web link? Book? Other?

As Anita says, the shape is relatively common, the application is not. I'm not sure you can say it's Venini because I've never seen a reliable attribution (one with a label, a reference in a book) and the application doesn't seem like Venini. I know I've seen them eBay with a Venini attribution, but... The colour on the link you provide looks similar to the colour of yours. There's a Promovetro label on your linked one.  To me the number looks like 036, which is  Artigianato Muranese, but it's not clear on my monitor. If you can see the number more clearly, you might check the number out at http://www.muranoglass.com/
