Caithness Glass thimbles - question please
« on: March 29, 2011, 09:30:51 AM »
I am a South African thimble collector & was wondering if anybody could assist me with the images (Millefiori) on the Caithness glass thimbles. So far, in my collection, I have Caithness thimbles with millefiori flowers (various colours) & one millefiori contains a small image of a pair of scissors. My friend has a thistle on one of hers. I have also seen a thimble made to commemorate HRH Prince Andrew & Sarah Ferguson's wedding in July 1986. In the millefiori an A & S is shown surrounded by what looks like millefiori flowers (this thimble was for sale on the web). I was wondering if there are other images like a thimble, needle & thread, anchor etc. I would appreciate information - thank you!

Hi Paddy

I am not a thimble collector myself but there a quite a few images of them on the
scotlands glass web site which may help you - just search on caithness thimble.

Best regards

Derek

Thank you, Derek. I have started a sub-collection of glass/crystal thimbles and I really appreciate the information. I have also seen a Murano glass thimble & I have some Ullman crystal thimbles as well. Kind regards, Paddy
