Two-coloured bark texture vase -- maybe German?
« on: March 26, 2011, 08:20:44 PM »
I know there are a lot of these bark texture vases by different manufacturers; I have searched quite a bit, but couldn't find a match for this one so far...

Aqua-green colour blending to dark blue towards base. Cast in colourless glass.
Bark texture can also be felt from the inside.
Height 17cm, quite irregularly shaped rim, ground base.

I thought perhaps German?

Thanks!
Michael

I think it might have been made by Davidsons, mostly because this is what Emmi says in her blog: http://whitefriarsglasswannabees.blogspot.com/2010/07/bark-vases.html
about a fifth of the way down the page.

Here is her photo with a red one next to a Whitefriars bark vase: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_HSU6DiR5ivM/TDsKIJBfStI/AAAAAAAAA1s/8wxMjysFPXk/s1600/Mybarks.JPG

Thank you very much, John!!
The irregularly shaped base of the red vase depicted is exactly the same as in mine: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_HSU6DiR5ivM/TDsJQndfFpI/AAAAAAAAA1k/L1DgpG2yuD4/s1600/Mybarkbase.JPG

But Emmi doesn't give a definite ID for this one, as far as I can see?

Davidson would be nice -- my first piece of British glass then :)

Good point, Emmi only states she has been told they are Davidsons (a little further on). Silly me. ::)

Yup it's a tricky one.  NEVER seen one with a label, but I am 100% positive they are NOT Whitefriars.   ;D  Good to see that some people actually READ my blog :hiclp: :hiclp:

Thanks, Emmi!
Any idea if those are British?
Or is German still a possibility?

Actually, it is quite a nice vase, much better quality than Ingrid Glas IMO. Doesn't look recent either...

I've had these down as Oberglas Austria for many years - until they were identified on a Scandinavian site as Humppila. It was always quite obvious they were not WF, and I think the Davidson attribution is speculative - as are the other ones. I would not venture a positive attribution for these vases - for the moment just be content that it is a nice quality, a striking design and a fab finish and keep your options open.

Thank you very much, Ivo!! So Humppila is another possibility...

No way these are Oberglas (as I am in Austria I see loads of labeled Oberglas, never cased in clear, never more than single coloured)

I am very content with this vase -- but not so content with not getting an ID ;D

Well Michael, I have been waiting about 6 years for a definitive ID on these vases, as Ivo says, it is all speculative, and my continue to be so for another 6 or so years!
Personally I don't think they are Humppila either as the glass quality does not compare well with the Humppila example I had.

Thanks, Emmi! -- At least we are a group of people now waiting to have these IDd :)

So, German manufacturer is still a possibility?
Edit: one observation I just made: the aqua-green colour of the vase is exactly the same as in a Tamara Aladin "Safari" vase I have. But this certainly may not mean anything...
