Archimede Seguso?
« on: January 21, 2006, 09:01:16 PM »
Hi Everyone!

Picked up this bowl today, It's in Leslie Pina's book "Italian Glass Century 20" on page 151. At least this looks like the same bowl to me. See what you think. Anyway, there is a partial sticker on it. I can't make much out but I got the magnifying glass out and I see it says E.P.P. (can't make the rest) but underneath it, it says "New York" Then you can see "PRODUCT" and underneath that "Made In Italy" Import label? Is this a common bowl? Any comments always appreciated.

Hi,   The label is from E.P. Paul and Co. Some of their labels also has Paul's Gifts printed on them.  They were an import / export company and they traded world wide. I have the same bowl without a label. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful with the glass. Bill B

A fairly common shape, but though I've often seen it attributed to Archimede Seguso, I've never actually found one with a Seguso attributable label or a direct signature. Might be worth researching more through the Paul importers and seeing if anything throws up that they dealy with Seguso.

Hello CathyG,
I have the same bowl in clear and gold, with the Balboa label.
Still unsure of who made it, since as with many import/export companies, Balboa has been a bit of a mystery. I do know about, and have owned pieces by Toso, Barovier, and Seguso with the Balboa labels. At least I think is a good quality piece so thats good!

Thanks Bill B for the info on the label!

Thanks for the replies!

Bill, The label info was interesting.

Paul, I tried googling but didn't come up with anything.

Javier, Thanks for your comment, it's always nice to hear from you.
