Help identify butterfly pattern trinket set - ID = Bagley 3003
« on: January 22, 2006, 06:05:48 AM »
Can anyone identify this green pressed glass trinket set http://www.glass.co.nz/vanrielbutterfliesasmall.jpg
It is not the well-known Sowerby butterfly set, it may be Bagley but I have not seen it in any Bagley documents.
Any hints, or even negative information, will be welcome (as in telling me what it definitely is not)!!
Thanks,
Angela

I've not seen one like this anywhere before Angela, and I do watch out for dressing table trays as they are one of my collection things.

Is the quality similar to the Sowerby one or not?

Hi Angela

I had and sold the same set in pink!
I didnt have an ID for it, but sold it pretty quickly after listing it.

Anne, it was nicely made but IMHO nowhere near the quality of Sowerby.

Thanks Cheri, that's what I thought from the photo but you cannot always tell for sure just from pictures. :)

first idea was the Reich butterfly pattern but of course it did not match  :(
really sad Angela, not being able to give some***** back of what all this here belongs

Any ideas yet, I wonder, since the quality isn't there, that it may be Chinese?

I have a 'pottery' trinket in the shape of a butterfly and It looks to be Oriental.

I'm wondering if it's mainly the Oriental who make these butterfly shaped trinkets, or do other countries make them too?

Long shot, yep.  ;D

Hi Tigerchips,
Thats an interesting idea. Can anyone confirm that the Chinese made dressing table sets? I'm not aware of any Chinese designed dressing table sets.
I can't answer the questions about quality because these are in the UK. I'll have a look when I'm over there.
All the very best

Angela, I've just found a pair of candlesticks which could be a match for your butterfly box... no indication of maker on them anywhere though. Quality isn't brilliant, and there's a feint yellow tinge to the glass.

Hi Anne,
That does look like a match. Your picture shows up pretty much yellow on my screen - is it actually clear?
I haven't found out any more about it meantime. 'twould be good to know more.

It is clear with that yellow tinge you sometimes see in glass - I took the pic in a hurry last night using manila book mailers as a background! I'll try and get some clearer ones done when I can make some space to do them.
