Can I believe these labels?
« on: April 06, 2011, 06:01:07 PM »
Hello,

In my latest lesson in Murano glass, I found these pieces.  Please take a look at the labels.  I know that there are a lot of small glass trinkets available online that are listed as Murano but actually come from China.  These pieces look like Murano but I'm no expert by any means.  Do these labels look authentic?  What do I need to look for in labels to ensure it is Murano?

Thanks,

Richard

Richard I can't help really, but I also can't read your labels clearly and sometimes it's important to know what else it says on the labels besides it just saying Murano.  Can you enlarge the photos please?  Also it is important to see the whole piece - I was probably not doing it correctly but I didn't come up with a pic of the whole piece of glass when I enlarged it.  If you can add that, I'm sure it will help others.
thanks
m

These labels are from glass that is made in the style of the masters of Murano. The glass is not from Murano, though. The labels are some of those misleading ones. They are usually on nice enough glass.

Tx,
You hit it right on the head again!  You're batting 1000

I went back and actually peeled off one of the stickers.  Here is exactly what is printed on it:

vetro eseguito
secondo la tecnica
dei maestri di
MURANO
Made in Italy

I am realiably told that it says, "Glass made according the style (technique) of the masters of Murano".

Of course they enlarge the name "MURANO" making it look like it was made in Murano.  Somehow I knew this wasn't Murano, but I wanted to get an expert opinion regarding the label.  For future reference, I'll be reading the fine print from now on.

To me, it isn't anything to write home about.  It looks like it was done by an apprentice.  But, overall a nice looking piece for the price.

Regards, and many thanks,

Richard

Hi guys,
really don't care too much at the labels.
I can buy generic Murano glass labels bulk. It is a shame, but it is pretty common to apply these labels on imported glassworks.
Look at the glass details, not at the label.
imho of corse..

Ciao
