« on: April 17, 2011, 02:36:30 PM »
Hello all
I am looking for the manufacturer and designer of this vase, I think is a Czech manufacturer from Chribska or Baranek.

Thank you in advance for any help

Best regards Sergio

I saw these Images today (Picasa Web) at Skrdlovice 1944 - 2008 Exhibition from J.P
(The Plate/shield Vaza Navrh neznamy autor 2 polovina 50)
Says Design unknown author Vase  ~1955

And by Harrachov incl Harrtil Galery from E.

Some vases are similar to my one,  Colour and the Base with three stand.

So I got there two different Manufacture Skrdlovice and Harrachov may some Czech Expert can me give more details.

Gruss Sergio

It certainly looks Czech, and it looks early to me (due to the somewhat faded quality of the colours). Harrtil range from Harrachov looks different, that has embedded white glass threads in it.

Skrdlovice or Mstisov, 50s-60s would be my guess. Maybe someone can be more exact about it...

Yes, the first piece is Skrdlovice, although the colours are similar some Karlovarske Sklo and Harrachov pieces.  The base is also similar to the Harrachov ashtray, but if you look at my Picasa file of Skrdlovice, you'll see your vase there.

I'm pretty sure the vase from the exhibition is not the same as the piece that started the thread.

Yep your Skrdlovice No.606 matching with my one.
I must have tomatoes on my eyes.

At least I know now the Manufacture.

The Manufacture year is it 1955 ~58 or later?

As well I don’t know the head designs, in the sixty’s 1962-1967 was Miloslava Svobodova, then came F. Vizner
One more Matter is if the Vase is made in the middle of fifty’s so was a group of Artist (UUR / Center for Artistic Craft) in Collaboration to made up the Expo 58 in Brussels,
in this case I can’t dating it.

Need Patience may a  Skrdlovice Expert knows the direction of this Interesting Time & Vase

when I know more I report at here

Hi Sergio,
your vase is Czechoslovakian, very simmilar to Beranek pieces but I would rather say that this is not Skrdlovice BUT Mstisov production, late 50ties.
Late we wait for Robert (bOBA) expertise.

These vases can be confusing and beyond being certainly CZ, I would be basically happy to suggest the possibility that this may be the same as this vase seen in the Pardubice exhibition of Skrdlovice glass, a Bohuslav Beranek design from the early 50's...

https://picasaweb.google.com/RobertLBJ/SkrdlovicePardubiceMuseumExhibitionCzechRepublic2009#5415514030584056722

but this is only an opinion, Mstisov-Karlovarske sklo, produced some designs that are virtually identical, I attach on of mine, I am still uncertain which of the two options is correct! A joy (and frustration) of glass collecting, is that none of us knows everything....

Robert, do you know whether certain colour combations were more used at one factory or the other? I associate the brown-blue combination more with Mstisov than with Skrdlovice - probably because I've seen more examples called Mstisov with those colours, but that doesn't mean it's correct of course...

Mstisov, I understand that most of the workers were moved to Karlovarske Sklo where some of their hot worked designs continued being made. This is a subject area Jindra and I are very interested in understanding in better detail!! This blue-brown is more often associated with Mstisov-Karlovarske Sklo  without a doubt.  The lumpy tree trunk shapes are all Karlovarske, usually seen in these kinds of colours but perhaps even sharper colour contrast, they are never Skrdlovice. This is not quite the tree trunk type and the colours may pass for Skrdlovice. Sometimes even contrast on a photo can make a difference to understanding the exact colours..... also the mix of colour in the factory on the day can result in sharp or soft colouring, especially at Skrdlovice, where a lot of variation is seen in intensity, but as I say, this vase and the one above could be either without more evidence. My photo of a similar vase above is in classic Skrdlovice green-brown but I have seen evidence in CGR of one of the Zemek brothers designing a very similar vase. The fact F. Zemek designed hot worked pieces at Skrdlovice and Mstisov and his brother designed similar pieces at Mstisov too, does not make the whole thing any easier to unravel. The variability of hand made production can add to this confusion as each hand makes the vase slightly different each time, but I agree with you about colourways, generally they are usually a very useful indicator of origin, ideally to be backed up by an image in Czechoslvak Glass Review, catalogues, labelled pieces etc...
