Sold as Murano, is this true?
« on: January 26, 2006, 11:15:10 PM »
Hi everyone,

Today I've bought this glass vase, the shop owner told me it is Murano.

I've searched all over the internet but I can't seem to find any objects that look like the one I bought.

Does anybody have any information about this vase?

(sorry for the not too good looking background :D )

Thanks in advance!

Greetings,

Jeroen

Hello Jeroen,
Thanks for your post.
Can I ask that you try and resize the photo?
I tried to open the link and it took a really long time, and it stoped loading half way. I think if it was much smaller it ould be easier to see.
Thanks again,
Javier

My first instinct is not Murano, what sort of age wear is there to the base, it is conceivable that it could be 1930's Murano, but with the colouration and style I suspect Bohemia area.

I don't know what wear to expect from a thirties' Murano vase... I'm kinda new to glass objects  ...

If it would be a Bohemian area piece, how old do you think it is?

I've paid fifteen euro's, is that too much?

Greetings,

Jeroen

It is a nice vase, as far as I can see it was made quite recently in Romania, and 15 Euros is a fair price.

Thanks everyone!

I still can't seem to find anything that looks like it. I've spent hours googling but no good results turned up...

Ah, well, I keep trying!  :)

Jeroen

I would suggest you ask someone who knows about Whitefriars glass, perhaps there is a section on this web site - they are well known for using the teardrop motif and there are also a couple of good websites devoted to this - google will bring them up!  I am not saying that this is Whitefriars, but it would be a good area to explore - hope that helps!

The WF 'teardrop' range dates from 1900 and 1932 (as far as I know).  I don't recall seeing a teardrop in this vivid cobalt blue before.  It looks modern to me too.  :)

If you want to see WF catalogues, www.whitefriars.com is a good place to start.  :D
