I at first sight thought this could well be an Orreefors bowl - alas no signature so that seems inlikely.  Next thought was Whitefriars but I can't see a pattern with a flat top like this bowl and they usually had 5 lobes anyway.  Next thought was Murano - BUT it is completely clear and that makes me think it unlikely - ditto for Japanese & Chinese.

I am puzzled.  Your thoughts would be very appreciated.

That is an intersting thought Johnphillip but I have a couple of examples of his bowls and they have the pontil ground out at the centre of the cross a little plus there is no signature.

The piece has the feel of and excellent maker and is so regular I would expect one of the larger factories.

Can you give me a site to look up for Chribska please Alfie's Dad.

Hi Ross, I only thought of Chribska with the lobed base on yours looks very similar to the Chribska base on my lobed bowl but of a different colour. I don't know how to link other sites, so just copy and paste (below) to see other Chribska pieces designed by Josef Hospodka.                                                              www.flickr.com/photos/art-of-glass/collections/72157624351355657

I have one of these that is marked Orrefors.

Well it looks very similar. I will have to dig it out later.

Edit: Ahh ignore me that's what you already thought it looked like.

Anne EB can you give me a site to look up Magnor glass please.  I have heard of them but never seen a labelled or marked example.

Thanks for the site address Robert.

Nemmie I would very much like to see the photo of the Orrefors piece you are referring to.  It is possible that for some reason mine was not engraved but sent out with a label - most of those eventually disappear.  As I said my first thought was Orrefors but it is unusual to not have an engraved marking.

These are from Sweden & the blue & silver foil label (if still on the piece) simply reads "handcrafted in Sweden". Orrefors did make a very similar piece, but theirs is always signed. These particular ones came in four sizes measured by the top diameter, 3 1/2 to 7  1/2" & came in crystal & blue. My DW uses them as nut dishes. I can take a pic of both a crystal one & a blue one if necessary, but these are not uncommon in the U.S. except for the large 7 1/2" size. Ken

Edited: I've got to run, but I took a couple of hurried photos (sorry if they are not the best) & before anyone asks the bottom looks exactly like the bottom of the OP's.
