Designer of Gral-Glas candle holder?
« on: May 01, 2011, 03:47:01 PM »
Can anybody tell me the designer of this labeled Gral-Glas candle holder / convertable vase?
Diameter is appr. 11cm.

I even have the original box it came in, but it is stored away, so I didn't take a picture... (the box looks very 1970s).

Thanks,
Michael

Hi Michael...  simply lovely piece.  I believe it was designed by Karl Wiedmann.  Dirk shows and discusses some Wiedmann pieces here in the cafe:  http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,38759.0.html

I'm sure he'll let you know for sure the next time he pops in.  :hi:

Thank you, Anik!
I wouldn't mind if it was designed by Karl Wiedmann :)
Dirk's surely looks similar, but mine has a different bottom finish -- can be used as a vase if turned upside down.

Hi Michael,

I found your vase/candle holder in the 1975 Gral 'Preisliste', identified as number H 156, but no designer name...

I do hope someone will come along with the information you are looking for.  :hi:

Thank you very much, Anik!!
So perhaps this was a factory design based on the Wiedmann piece...

In the Gral glas book are examples of pieces designed by others where Wiedmann is credited separately for the technique, so there is always that possibility.
